[MUSIC] Hello, I am Professor Duck-Joo Lee. Already the fifth week lectures are almost half done. Up to now, I emphasized the importance of self-reflection. Through the self-reflection You would know yourself and subtract those minds to achieve the ultimate goal of escaping the human minds false picture world, to live happily with the universe mind in the true world. In fact, the ultimate purpose of all this is happiness. We want to live happily. So we are doing all of this to find the true happiness. Another most important thing to accomplish a happy life would be health. Perhaps you have heard, the body and mind is one In the oriental medicine, it is said that the body and the mind is one. Most diseases come from stressed minds, and those minds expressed in bodies are considered diseases. Tae-jong Yi, a Korean oriental medicine doctor who uses meditation as a part of the treatment, stated thusly. Immunity includes two types, the first type fights and eliminates the non-self which are threat to the self. and the other involves the power of adjustment (to the threats). When examining these diseases related to weakened immunity, like allergies, most of the cases are rooted from conditions of the mind. If they have a tendency to be negative, self critical, or highly opinionated, or if they are perfectionists, they do not accept the non-self, and this can lead to the diseases related to weakened immunity. But when these people were recommended the meditation and used it along with other treatments, it was highly effective. As much as their minds were subtracted through self-reflections, their mindsets became accepting of others and their health improved. As a Korean oriental medicine practitioner, I confirm that as much as the mind transforms, the body becomes healthy. The following could have also happened to you. With a severe headache you could have gone to a hospital for an examination. The doctor may have said to you, It is probably related to stress. Try to avoid stress. Not knowing how to live avoiding stress, perhaps you could have left the hospital gloomily. There are so many research studies and dissertations about how meditation can reduce stress. Among them, a research article, (2015 August), from Korean Wellness journal called The Effect of Meditation on Depression, Anxiety and the Stress Reduction in Adults with Depression, examined 76 adults with depression diagnoses who did the self-reflection meditation for one week. The results showed all participants had a very significant reduction in depression scores and stress responses. In another example, what if I had just recovered from a severe disease?. Even if the doctor assured that I recovered completely, I could still have anxiety about the disease returning. In the research study called, The Effect of a Meditation Program on Psychological Wellness, Professor Mira Yun from Nursing Department Of Joong-Ang University examinind 54 breast cancer survivors after surgeries. and the cancer treatments with an approval IRB from Seoul Hyundai Asan Medical Center and Nursing Department, Seoul National University. The research result showed a reduction in stress and depression, and the quality of a life and life satisfaction improved very significantly. After surviving through severe diseases, patients usually experience serious psychological difficulties. such as the stress in maintaining health, anxiety about possible relapse of the diseases, social isolation, and avoidance of relationships. The meditation can be tremendous help in those difficulties. No matter what was happening in the past, you can live healthier as much as your mind has become brightened and at ease. Because of this, you must do self-reflection even more. Please close your eyes. The time is flowing past. 10 years, and 20 years are past. You have become a spirit after death. and left the earth to go up to the infinite universe. After going to the universe, 100 years have passed. Far away, you can see the Earth, which looks like a pea-sized dot. Among your life, memories while you lived on the Earth, for today., please remember your memories related to your body, health, and illness. All these are stories from 100 years, 200 years ago, which occurred on the pea-sized Earth far, far away. Keep your eyes closed and focus to remember. Think of times when you were sick in your childhood. You were upset about not playing with your friend due to illness. Fearful memories about going to hospital. Remember, your parents worrying about you. Think about how you self-evaluated your health. I am relatively healthy., I am relatively sickly... Remember, when you saw someone being sick and having anxious mindset. Maybe you could be sick like that too. Think about your body responses to your emotions. When you were extremely angry or sad, have you ever had pain in your chest or was short of breath? You could have suffered through a headache of unknown origin, in the middle of facing a difficult and complicated work. Think of the time when you were jealous of your friend. Maybe your chest felt tight or your stomach could have hurt. If you experienced illness and received treatment, remember emotions from back then, going through surgery, taking medications and injections. The moment you thought, you don't want to experience this again. After that, how did you maintain your health? Little by little, remember what kind of mindset you have about your body and illness. We are going to do up to this point. Open your eyes. How was it? Perhaps something like, I have a fractured my ankle when I was young. So my ankles are still weak. Earlier in this lecture, I said that we take pictures using eyes, nose, mouth, ears, and body, and live in the false picture world. All of those stories are your life and health is a topic which cannot be dismissed. Therefore you must remember and subtract causes of stress, which are all of your remembered memories, including anxiety and fear about illness, self-conceit about health, and anything related to your body. When all are thrown away without even one picture to come up, we can truly live with a healthy mind and body. Were you able to understand well? If there is any question or something you didn't understand, please ask anytime. Then, I will see you in the next lecture,. Thank you.
