[MUSIC] Hello, this is Duck-Joo Lee. Is your self-reflection diary filling up well? I hope writing the journal was not stressful. I do not wish to cause you stress. If it was a stress, I hope it was a stress with a good purpose. Is there such thing as good stress? Yes, I believe there is. That's when that stress helps me as a result. I would like to share one story with you guys. As an aero scientist, I had to fly often for business trips. But one day, flying had become the most painful thing for me. I was suffering from claustrophobia and I didn't know what caused it. I was having a panic attack on the airplane. I had cold sweats and my heart was in so much pain that I felt like I was going to die. So I had to take sleeping pills whenever I had to go on an airplane. Eventually I found the treatment by seeing a doctor and taking medication regularly. However, ten years later, through the self-reflection meditation, I remembered one incident while I was looking back at my life chronologically. It happened when I was five or six. There was a big dog house in my hometown made of cement. One day, my three friends and I went into that dog house to play. We were able to get in but I almost could not come out because my legs got tangled up. It was very scary. I forgot about this incident as I got older but as my stress level increased during my adulthood, the subconscious fear from that incident came to the surface as claustrophobia. Thus I was able to find the real cause of my claustrophobia through self-reflection and by throwing away the picture and the emotion of a fear, I became free from the panic attacks. In fact, I was able to look back at myself due to the enormous feeling of pressure and stress which came out as claustrophobia. I was happy because I was able to fly without any problems. I am thankful for the method of self-reflection. But one day, a thought came to my mind while I was on an airplane for a business trip. I thought about how much the pressure and the stress is on this airplane that has to carry hundreds of people. The wings support the weight of the airplane. The very first airplane the Wright brothers invented could not handle this much weight. But as the science and technology has advanced, the materials is fortified so it can fly higher, faster, and carry more people. People are the same way. Getting older, more work load, and higher position at work give us more stress. Then we need to have a stronger mental strength to endure the weight. If one easily break down from stress, that means he has weak mental strength. A person who is trapped by countless memories and emotions accumulated during their life, naturally has weak mental strength. Truly strong mentality is without those pictures, meaning it is possible when you change from human mind to the universe mind. Therefore, if you guys feel small stress or big stress, it is important to look back on your life. Okay, let's close your eyes. Time passed by. 10 years, then 20 years passed by. 50 years. 100 years. 200 years passed by. I died. I who died and became spirit goes up to the infinite universe. 100 years passed after I went to the universe. Far away, the Earth looks like a dot, the same size of a bean. Please recall the memories from that Earth. Especially, memories regarding stress. All these happened on that small bean-size Earth. It happened 100, 200 years ago. Keep your eyes closed and concentrate to recall the memories. a Recall the time since childhood when I felt stress Usually when was I under stress? Was it when I wanted to do something well? Think of the times when I wanted to be recognized and praised. After I received a compliment, what did I want next? Was it difficult because people didn't listen to me? Recall the moment when I was mad because things didn't go the way I want. How did you express it when you were under stress? Maybe I screamed. maybe I broke things. Or maybe I broke into tears. Recall those moments when I reacted in a certain way. What is the reason that stressful situation reoccurred? Think about the moments when I wished the other person would change rather than changing myself. Think about the people who give me stress now. Because if it were not for those people, would not I get stressed? Look back at how all this stress started. Okay, we will do until here. As I look back, I realized that I sweated small stuff. It is not an exaggeration to say that my whole life from birth until now is one lump of stress. In other words, anything that comes up in my mind is stress. The bigger the stress lump is when a similar situation occurs, my mentality is more likely to break down. But the more we look back and throw away, even if the same situation occurs, we don't need to feel stress. Not only the ordinary people, but even the big corporations and school also implement meditation programs. Nowadays, meditation is becoming a trend for modern people. I think this is not an exception for you guys who are taking this course. Now is the era that everyone can do meditation. Self-reflection meditation opens the doors for those who want to know oneself accurately and live a brighter and better life. What do you think?
