Hi. Welcome to the development of mobile health monitoring systems. My name is Evgenii. I'm an Associate Professor at the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Saint Petersburg State Electrotechnical University and a Research Assistant at the Institute of Endocrinology at Almazov Medical Center. In this course, my colleagues and I will guide you through the basic steps of the prototype development of a complex mobile health system. This course includes five modules dedicated to different stages of the system development. They represent several widely separated fields of biomedical engineering. In fact, at our department, we have individual courses in each field. But here, we interconnect them by applying the knowledge from them all to a common task, the development of a prototype of an mHealth ECG system with built-in data-driven signal processing and analysis. Working on this task throughout the course, you will acquire a knowledge in how these branches of science including electronics, mathematics, data science and programming are applied together in a real project. Pieces of hardware and software as well as the datasets that we utilize in this course are the same components that we use in our work, developing prototypes of devices and algorithms for our tasks in science and engineering. Each module contains three lessons with several videos supplemented with built-in questions. Materials for reading, external links, a test and a programming assignment are provided at the end of each module. Programming assignments are organized in such a way that an output of every week's task is logically connected with the initial data on the programming assignment for the next week. At the same time, it is not required despite it is recommended, of course, to go from one step to another as you will be provided with all the necessary data and information to successfully fulfill each of items separately. We expect learners to have basic knowledge in mathematics, electronics and programming in order to easily complete all the tasks in the course. Nevertheless, it is possible to complete the course without prior knowledge if you dedicate some time to reading of external materials. Note that the goal of the course is not to provide you with fundamental knowledge of any of these topics highlighted in our modules, but to give you some useful skills on implementing them in practical tasks. I hope you enjoy the course and learn something new from it. So, without wasting any minute of your time, let's get started.
