Welcome to our second module in the Action Planning course. In this module, we'll look much more closely at goal setting, the tools that you will need to be much more effective as both a leader and as a follower. But first, let's take a look at my leadership observation for this module. Good leaders make mistakes and then fix them, they don't leave them for others to clean up. Now, let's move on to our objectives for this module. First, we're going to look at some ways that you can be proactive in setting goals to the extent that you have control over your own goals, we'll give you the motivation that you need to complete them effectively. We'll look at what SMART goals are, what the acronym stands for and what the components of a good SMART goal are. We'll actually use that template to prepare a goal related to a leadership competency. We'll look at how you develop action plans to support that SMART goal. The goal itself is not enough, you have to have an actionable plan composed of all the right steps that will allow you to complete the goal. And lastly, we'll look at the resources, the ways of finding the resources, and identifying them so that you can reinforce the action plan that you have to complete your goals. As we look at ways to create good goals, we'll also consider what I call, the articles of faith of creating meaningful goals. First, good objectives cause us to work on the right things. Good goals produce good results. And lastly, good action plans give us a way to measure our progress so that we know where we are at any given time.
