Welcome to Module 3 in our course on action planning. Working in teams has become a way of life for engineers. In this course, we'll examine some team dynamics, and explore some ways that you can build creative, high performing teams. But first, let's take a look at my leadership observation for this module. Good leaders react well to unexpected circumstances. This is a trait that goes hand-in-hand with having an internal locus of control, as we discussed in the self awareness course. Now, let's take a look at our objectives for this course. First, we will look at the stages of team development that all teams go through, and how they evolve over time. We'll look at the influence of the forming stage, and how that impacts the ultimate success of a team. We'll then shift and look at the role of the followers in the team, and the fact that all participants in a team have some accountability for the overall success. We'll then describe what an exemplary follower might look like in a high performing team. We'll spend some time talking about actually launching a team, an activity that you might have to do as a leader in an engineering organization. And then lastly, we'll take a look at, what does a high performing team really look like? Few of us ever get a chance to experience that firsthand very many times. Being a member of a team is inevitable. It's in your best interest as an engineer and as a leader to understand how to ensure that your team can deliver results in a manner that exceeds expectations.
