Hello. I'm Kelly Ann Foster, a professor at Penn State, and I want to welcome you to Geodesign, Change Your World. We've been working really hard to put together a very exciting course, and I can't wait to get started. But before we begin, I want to review a few things with you because this class is maybe a little bit different than the typical MOOC course that you might have taken. Each week you will have a new lesson, and each lesson has several parts. There's my main lecture, which covers the key topic. There will be two guest lectures who elaborate on the topic. And there are change agent cards, they're kind of like flash cards. I've also curated three case study examples for you to review each week. There's a weekly activity and a reading or two, and each week there's also a short quiz which is going to assess your understanding about all of these things. In addition, we hope you participate in the discussion forums. Your final grade in this class will be based on how well you do in the quizzes, your completion of the final activity, which will be assessed. And the degree to which your discussion forum posts are acknowledged by your classmates. There's no particular order that you have to complete these various parts each week. However, it's probably most helpful to begin by viewing my main lecture video, or the scor, or the corresponding text. The case study examples each week are grouped based on the change agent topic. So it might be good to review the change agent cards before looking at the case studies. I do want to emphasize, though, that simply watching my main lecture video each week won't be enough to successfully complete this class. The other parts I've assembled are really valuable, and will provide you with a richness of understanding about geodesign. Before the class starts, we'd like you to do a quick kind of fun activity. We're going to have you pinpoint your location on a map. I've already got a general sense that we've got students from all over the world enrolled, which is really great. It will be fun to see exactly where you are and who you are. So I hope you will take just a couple of minutes before the class begins to pin yourself on the map and look over all the course materials. I look forward to sharing with you how the geodesign process is helping to address land-use design challenges of all scales all around the world. Thanks for joining this conversation and have fun exploring.
