Hello. My name is Denise Lewin Loyd, and I'm an Associate Professor of Organizational Behavior at the Gies College of Business, here, at the University of Illinois. I grew up in Miami, Florida, one of three kids. I'm the middle kid. I stayed in Miami for college. I went to University of Miami, and I studied Civil and Architectural Engineering. Then, I decided to go straight into my master's degree in Construction Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. After that, I worked for a few years in construction management working on large and small projects. That's where I really got interested in group dynamics. Working with cross-functional teams of engineers and architects, and subcontractors to try to create projects, really got me fascinated about the dynamics around status, around issues like diversity, both with respect to demographic differences and also with respect to background differences or expertise and knowledge. That led me to a PhD in organizational behavior at Kellogg, Northwestern in Evanston. After that, I was excited to join the faculty at MIT on the other side, this time, in organizational behavior, organization studies. I worked there for several years. About six years ago, I made the transition here to Gies. It's been a wonderful experience for me so far, really engaged curious colleagues who were also kind people, and I've enjoyed really working with all of the students across the many levels and classes that I've taught. I've taught courses such as Introduction to Management and Leadership, Core Leadership classes for MBA students, and I've taught Business Ethics which I've enjoyed a lot. I've also taught Negotiations, and I've had lots of workshops on Diversity in Teams. So I look forward to seeing you in one of my classes and engaging in any of these topics.
