We all negotiate on a daily basis. On a personal level, we negotiate with friends, family, landlords, car sellers and employers, among others. Negotiation is also the key to business success. No business can survive without profitable contracts. Within a company, negotiation skills can lead to your career advancement. In the course, you’ll learn about and practice the four steps to a successful negotiation: (1) Prepare: Plan Your Negotiation Strategy (2) Negotiate: Use Key Tactics for Success (3) Close: Create a Contract (4) Perform and Evaluate: The End Game To successfully complete this course and improve your ability to negotiate, you’ll need to do the following: (1) Watch the short videos (ranging from 5 to 20 minutes). The videos are interactive and they include questions to test your understanding of negotiation strategy and skills. You can speed up or slow down videos to match your preferred pace for listening. Depending on your schedule, you can watch the videos over a few weeks or you can binge watch them. A learner who binge-watched the course concluded that “It’s as good as Breaking Bad.” Another learner compared the course to “House of Cards.” Both shows contain interesting examples of complex negotiations! (2) Test your negotiation skills by completing the negotiation in Module 6. You can negotiate with a local friend or use Discussions to find a partner from another part of the world. Your negotiation partner will give you feedback on your negotiation skills. To assist you with your negotiations, I have developed several free negotiating planning tools that are related to the course. These tools and a free app are available at http://negotiationplanner.com/ . The course also includes an opportunity to use an interactive experience where you can test your negotiation skills before starting the live negotiation. (3) Take the final exam. To successfully complete the course, you must answer 80% of the questions correctly. The exam is a Mastery Exam, which means that you can take it as many times as you want until you master the material. Course Certificate You have the option of earning a Course Certificate. A Certificate provides formal recognition of your achievements in the course and includes the University of Michigan logo. This course teaches strategies not only for negotiating but for life and the way we make decisions. It is very helpful, you will learn a lot even if you are not experienced or have very little understanding about negotiation; and the professor gives lots of examples for better understanding, keeps interesting every lesson and the way he speaks makes you stay focused. i would definitely take another course with him.

I'm an artist and the content covered is very much outside of my wheelhouse, how I process the world. It was a mind-bender; a welcome challenge. If you'd like to learn the basic skills/and an extensive, in-depth overview to attain a solid understanding of how negotiations work, I highly recommend Professor Siedel's course. Especially appreciated: his way of methodically “building a case” for the art of negotiation.

I really grateful could join this class with a great instructor, Mr. George Siedel. This class really give many benefits on negotiation: plan negotiation strategy, the key tactics to use for success, create a contract, and how to perform it well by doing the execise. The instructor also give many example or case that happened in the field so it would be easier for me to understand the materials.

Professor George was an excellent instructor and it was one of the best online courses I have taken to date . I was able to get some new information on negotiation which will be beneficial in both my personal and professional life. Professor Seidel is a great instructor. He goes very in depth with his explanations, offering real world examples of the content he teaches. This is one of the most useful and informative courses I have ever taken, and the fundamentals taught in this class have a wealth of real-world applications. If you're on the fence, take the course. It'll be one of the most useful things you've ever done.

This was very good. You learn a lot of the language and preparation of negotiation. I didn't need the legal aspects as much since I took this course for personal reasons, but that could be helpful in business negotiations. I think that the final assignment (House on Elm Street negotiation) was very good but I wish there were more examples given so I could use that for future practice.

I strongly recommend this course to everyone: Taught by a great instructor, this is a well developed course that encourages you to conduct an actual negotiation with another person (for me that was someone across the globe I found through course forum) and put the learning into practice and receive valuable insights about my personal negotiating style and how I could improve it.

There is worthwhile cognitive insight imparted in this course. Most helpful is the importance of inspecting your view of a problem for faults in perception that limit positive outcomes for both parties in a negotiation. After some weeks, finally I can finish this course. I like how the instructor for explaining the materials of the course. They give you cases for the example of implementation and ask us to active solve cases although it's online course. I suggest, it will be better if explanation that instructor speak also can give detail in video. thanks you for the insights and knowledge

For an online course it is truly engaging and rewarding. The no pressure and flexible approach means that you can go back to the course anytime time and time again. George J Seidel is just great. Easy to follow and importantly easy to understand. Without a doubt my favorite section (and tool) must be BATNA ANALYSIS - Using Decision Trees.
