Machine learning is the science of getting computers to act without being explicitly programmed. In the past decade, machine learning has given us self-driving cars, practical speech recognition, effective web search, and a vastly improved understanding of the human genome. Machine learning is so pervasive today that you probably use it dozens of times a day without knowing it. Many researchers also think it is the best way to make progress towards human-level AI. In this class, you will learn about the most effective machine learning techniques, and gain practice implementing them and getting them to work for yourself. More importantly, you'll learn about not only the theoretical underpinnings of learning, but also gain the practical know-how needed to quickly and powerfully apply these techniques to new problems. Finally, you'll learn about some of Silicon Valley's best practices in innovation as it pertains to machine learning and AI. This course provides a broad introduction to machine learning, datamining, and statistical pattern recognition. Topics include: (i) Supervised learning (parametric/non-parametric algorithms, support vector machines, kernels, neural networks). (ii) Unsupervised learning (clustering, dimensionality reduction, recommender systems, deep learning). (iii) Best practices in machine learning (bias/variance theory; innovation process in machine learning and AI). The course will also draw from numerous case studies and applications, so that you'll also learn how to apply learning algorithms to building smart robots (perception, control), text understanding (web search, anti-spam), computer vision, medical informatics, audio, database mining, and other areas....

The course will give you the incites to understand the data driven mathematical functions to write softwares that can behave or change its behavior, based on stimulus (data).\n\nAndrew Ng is excellent

good course; just 2 suggestions: improve the skew data part (week 6) and furnish the formula to evaluate the number of iteration in the window from image dimension, window dimension and step (week 11)

Great course. The programming assignments at times were a little too guided. I would have liked a more open project to work on, but learned a lot.

The material is somewhat outdated, but it makes a great introduction to Machine Learning and provides context for where the field is now.

Excellent in all, but one, aspect. Great lectures, course notes, and programming assignments. My only complaint is the level of "passing" 80% for the quizzes. Most quizzes involved many "Check all that apply" and since there were no part marks, achieving 80% actually meant closer to 94% with the frequent multiple correct/incorrect answer options.

The task assigned in the assignment should have been a bit more. Overall a very good course and introduced me to the basics of Machine Learning in a very systematic manner.

Overall experience was good but it could have better if the derivatives would have explained in details. As we forgot all the mathematical derivatives .

Great Course. Wish there was an addendum (optional ) for the math behind it.

The octave exercises were ambiguous but the discussion board really helped out with that.

Very concise, simple explanations. Nice exercises.Exercises on stochastic gradient descent would have been useful.

Good overview of machine-learning basics. Don't expect to have an intimate or working knowledge of the algorithms after this course, but expect to develop some intuition as well as awareness of common pitfalls. The programming assignments often felt more like an exercise in vectorizing code rather than reinforcing algorithmic understanding. All in all, though, good course for establishing the fundamentals, and I now feel confident to make further forays into ML.

Great class. Tutorials give a bit too much away for the easier assignments, but overall, great content and worthwhile programming assignments and examples.

Great explanatory videos which go into the relevant details. The creator understandably explains the relevant formulas and provides guidance for good machine learning practice.

Quizzes and programming exercises could use more machine learning practice and fewer pure math exercises where the ML topic merely provides a scenery in which you do basic arithmetic (quizzes) or change a sum formula to matrix operations, so that matlab/octave can execute it (programming exercises).

excellent course combining theory with practical. ex4 assignment required better support from support staff. They offer no help other than redirecting to some fixed help manual.

Amazing course by andrew ng.Difficult topic were explained very clearly.would have given five stars if r or python was was provided for assignment problem solving
