Yao Zhao is a professor in the Department of Supply Chain Management at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. He obtained his Ph.D. degree in Industrial Engineering and Management Sciences from Northwestern University, Evanston, IL. He was a visiting scholar at MIT Operations Research Center and a visiting professor at Duke Fuqua School of Business. He is the co-director of the Supply Chain Analytics Lab at Rutgers and the coordinator of the PhD program in Supply Chain Management. His current research interests lie in supply chain management, analytics and healthcare. He published in leading operations research and operations management journals such as Operations Research, Manufacturing & Service Operations Management (M&SOM), Production and Operations Management, Operations Research Letters, Naval Research Logistics, etc., and served as an associate editor for Operations Research and M&SOM. He is the recipient of honorable mention in M&SOM student paper competition in 2001, the National Science Foundation Career Award in Manufacturing Enterprise Systems in 2008, the Dean’s Award for Meritorious Research in 2011, and the 1st place award of INFORM case and teaching materials competition in 2014. He was invited to speak at universities and industry research laboratories, such as MIT Operations Research Center, Columbia DRO-IEOR, Stanford MS&E, IBM Watson, Chicago Booth, Duke Fuqua, Michigan Ross, Northwestern IEMS, NYU Stern, and Maryland Smith, etc. His research was reported by news media such as The European Business Review, Aviation Week & Space Technology, International Innovation and Pharmaceutical Executive. His PhD students hold tenured (tenure-track) faculty positions in research universities such as the College of William and Mary, Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economies at the University of Delaware, and NJIT, as well as quantitative research position at financial institutions like JP Morgan and Goldman Sachs. He designed and taught core operations and supply chain management / analytics courses for undergraduate, MBA, Executive and PhD programs at Rutgers Business School. His cases and instructional games were adopted by WUSTL Olin, Maryland Smith, Chinese University of Hong Kong, among others. He consulted with many companies and governmental agencies, such as General Motors, Estee Lauder, Verizon, MTA – NY Transit, Special Olympics, Fannie Mae, Robert Wood Johnson hospitals, and Water and Power Development Authority of Pakistan.
